A homeless Kurdish woman was given shelter and is being resettled by the government in Iraq’s Kurdistan region after a recent VOA Kurdish TV broadcast told of her suffering. The woman, Amina Ali, 39, had been living in a park in the city of Sulaimani in Iraqi Kurdistan after she could no longer afford to pay her rent.
From a tent in the park, Ali told VOA that she had no place to live and had been in the park for weeks. Shortly after VOA Kurdish reported on her struggles, local officials reached out to VOA for help in locating her. “We didn’t know about her until watching your video report,” one local official told VOA. The government in the Kurdistan region has since given Ali a temporary home and has taken steps to resettle her.
